Happy Holidays From Sugarman Law
We are just a few weeks shy of the end of 2021. I can’t believe it.
A year ago at this time, I had Covid, and here we are, a year later, still dealing with the pandemic.
The way business is done has changed drastically, as I know it has for so many. Some say they like it, some say they hate it – but it’s definitely different.
I like to think we are just flexible. Before, we primarily met people in person. Now, we meet with clients in-person, on Zoom or over the phone – however they want. It’s been so different doing closings, the seller often is not even there. We have the closing documents pre-signed and funds are wired. It certainly does add a layer of convenience, if we want to look for the silver linings.
Real estate is still hot and even though interest rates could go up, they are still at a historic low in the 3’s. I bought my home in 1990 and the rates were 11%, just to give you a comparison.
There has also been an uptick in short sales. If anybody knows anyone struggling, or on a mortgage forbearance, have them call me to discuss options. The foreclosure moratorium is going to eventually come to an end.
Along with real estate work, we have seen an increase in clients coming in for estate planning needs, especially younger people. It’s so important to get your plans in place, no matter your age, to ensure peace of mind and security.
I’ve missed speaking and doing seminars this year and do hope to get back to that in 2022. I have a potential talk in the works covering solar panels and how they affect a purchase or a sale, so stay tuned for more information on that.
On an exciting front, we welcomed Kim Sullo to the Sugarman team. She is an experienced real estate paralegal and because of her, we’ve been taking on more real estate clients and I’ve been able to take on more bank work.
I recently got a chance to travel to California for my niece’s wedding, which was fantastic. It was great to get away and see the entire family.
We’ve written a lot of content this past year and I encourage you to go back and read it when it applies to you. We covered issues that could delay a closing; rights and responsibilities; business, personal and real estate documents to get in place; health care proxy and power of attorney info; mortgage payment options and updating business policies for Covid.
If there is something you want us to cover in the new year, email me and let me know!
